Social 20: RI1/4 Concepts for Exam

Some concepts to review before your RI1/4 Exam:

  • Nation, State, Nation-state
  • Factors that contribute to sense of nation (ie. language, connection to land)
  • Contending non-nationalist loyalties (ie. class, region)
  • Contending nationalist loyalties in Canada (ie. Inuit, Quebec history)
  • Civic vs Ethnic Nationalism
  • Factors that lead to development of nationalism, particularly in the French Rev
  • Nationalism as collective consciousness (Quebec, America, French Rev, Canada)
  • Canadian national identity (symbols, myths, etc)
  • Challenges to Canadian nationalism (ie. Residential schools, Quebec sovereignty, multiculturalism, etc)
  • Perspectives of Canada as a nation (Aboriginal perspectives, PM P. Trudeau, etc)
