ELA 7/8: Postcards for Peace

We will be sending postcards to veterans — older veterans, younger veterans — as well as active military personnel to thank them for their service.

Start by looking at videos of Canada’s army and Canada’s military history. This may be a good place to start. https://www.youtube.com/user/CanadianArmyNews/videos

Brainstorm ideas about what stands out to you about military service. Maybe you’re proud. Angry. Sad. Maybe you have a personal connection. Come up with ideas about a message you could write.

Your postcard must have APPROPRIATE messaging: Before you write on a postcard you will do a draft of your message.

Then, I will ask you to go here http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/remembrance/get-involved/postcard-for-peace to find a destination you feel it is appropriate to send to. Maybe you have a personal connection to a community with a veteran’s care centre.

You’ll address the postcard, write your (brief) message, and then I will mail it on your behalf.
