Social 20: Treaty Relationships in Canada

On Orange Shirt Day it’s important we reflect on the relationships Indigenous Canadians have with the Rest of Canada. Some of this–though certainly not all–emerges as a result of the Treaties.

Review the following document — it is testable — and, in the context of your Orange Shirt Day presentations, consider the following question:

To what extent is Canada one Nation?

When considering this question, carefully examine not just the role of the government, but the implications for the various collective groups that live in Canada. We will discuss this question in class next week as part of a U-Shaped Discussion.
