Sustained Silent Reading

This year all Jr. High English classes (and some Sr. High) will be undergoing a Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) program.

During SSR Time, students will be tasked with reading books of their choice (or, in some cases, trade publications like magazines or comic books), reporting on one book to their instructors each month.

Text choices–and even presentation format!–are largely selected by students. The SSR Info Book contains some requirements, but the freedom for students to make their own decisions and guide their own learning is at the root of this decision.

If you have any questions about this major component of your child’s ELA 7/8 experience please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

September’s SSR presentation is due on or before September 26th.
