March 18 2020 COVID Update

Good afternoon.

Today I took the first tangible steps to creating normalcy for our classes. None of my classes will resume until March 30th, and they all will be moving to a digital format.

Grades 9 and 11 received a welcome video — albeit in different ways. Grade 9s received this directly to their email while 20s received an email directing them to our new FlipGrid space.

Video will be an essential tool for all my classes–including Social 5–as we move forward. My challenge for my 5s, 9s, and 11s is to play with various video options you have (outside social media like TikTok or Snap). Today I spent several hours using the video features on Windows 10, on Screencastify (sign in to chrome – you have it), on FlipGrid, and Google Meet (also on your Chrome).

Play. Explore. Edit. Be funny. Be silly. Be ridiculous. Let’s get familiar with this new setup we will be facing.

On the 30th all my classes will receive an email with directions on our next steps. Updates will continue to be posted here and @kylemedu on Twitter as well.

I look forward to “seeing” you all again soon.
