Sports Performance: Self Talk

Grades 9/10

We will review a slide deck on self talk. Then, you will differentiate between positive and negative self-talk, weaving that difference into your explanation of the strategy in the generic assignment.

Your task, in partners, is to create an instructional video that is 5-10 minutes long which contains the following, weaved together:

  • a list and brief description of all muscles considered to be part of the “core”
  • an overall description of body weight exercises that activate the core
    • a listing of the muscle groups targeted
    • a demo of one workout targeting the core
  • an overall description of yoga (stretch & strength) exercises that activate the core
    • a listing of the muscle groups targeted
    • a demo of one stretch & strength exercise targeting the core
  • an overall description of Pilates related exercises that activate the core
    • a listing of the muscle groups targeted
    • a demo of one Pilates related exercise targeting the core
  • an overall description of implement-based exercises that activate the core
    • a listing of the muscle groups targeted
    • a demo of one implement assisted workout targeting the core
  • an overall description of breathing exercises that activate the core
    • a listing of the muscle groups targeted
    • a demo of a breathing exercise that targets the core

NOTE: Proper spotting, posture, and use/safety of equipment will be assessed throughout your video.
